Tour of Umbria I
Assisi - Deruta - Perugia
Departure after breakfast from your accommodation (villa, hotel or farmhouse) to live a day rich of history and spirituality. In fact we will go to Assisi, the city where San Francesco was born and lived between 1100/1200 A.D. In the city centre we will visit the Basilica of San Francesco and its frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue, and obviously the grave of the Saint. Here, walking through the charming medieval streets, we will arrive on foot at Santa Chiara Church and visit the ancient Fortress of the town. You will have lunch in one of the traditional restaurants of Umbria. After lunch we will reach Deruta, where we will visit the famous ceramic
workrooms of “maioliche” and learn everything about the production methods and decoration techniques also with the support of English speaking people. We will go on to the city centre of Perugia. Without any doubt you will enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of the surrounding countryside. Walking through the streets of the city centre, you will admire monuments like Palazzo dei Priori, San Francesco church and Fontana Maggiore. For those who have a sweet tooth there is the possibility to taste in shops the typical chocolate of Perugia. We will be back to your accommodation for dinner time.
